Camp Glen Gray

Sanders Farm - 1810

Sanders Farm was owned by John S. Sanders, who lived here
in the 1800’s with his wife, Lenina Yahley and their four children,
named John, Alfred, Adeleur and Francis Price Sanders.

John Sanders was a Civil War veteran who received a shell wound
at Sailors Creek, Virginia on April 6, 1865. His occupation was
listed as a blacksmith. Yahley acquired 172 acres in 1853, and
used the land for the production of charcoal. John’s wife Lenina
was the daughter of John R. Yahley, a German immigrant.

Sanders Farm - 1810

Sanders Farm is located a short hike from Tindall Lodge, on the Schuber Trail (orange blazes). The farm house is long gone. Today it consists of an old staircase and a foundation, built out of fieldstone.

Foundary

Also on the farm was a foundary, the base of the chimney is all that is left.

Water for the farm came from a well only a short distance from the farm house front door.

Camp Glen Gray is located on old farmland, and such farmhouses were common around the turn of the 19th century throughout this part of what is now Bergen County.
