Camp
Glen Gray
John Sanders was a Civil War veteran who received a shell wound
at Sailors Creek, Virginia on April 6, 1865. His occupation was
listed as a blacksmith.
John’s wife Lenina was the daughter of John R. Yahley, a German
immigrant. In 1853, Yahley acquired 172 acres of land and
used it for the production of charcoal. Today that land is part
of Boy Scout Camp Yaw Paw.

Sanders Farm is located a short hike from Tindall Lodge, on the
Schuber Trail (orange blazes). The farm house is long gone. Today
it consists of an old staircase and a foundation, built out of
fieldstone.

Also on the farm was a foundary, the base of the chimney is all
that is left.

Water for the farm came from a well only a short distance from the farm house front door.
Camp Glen Gray is located on old farmland, and such farmhouses
were common around the turn of the 19th century throughout this
part of what is now Bergen County.
