Camp Glen Gray

Lake Vreeland

Lake Vreeland drained

The lake was dredged in the late 1970's and the old wooden docks were demolished and were replaced with aluminum docks, courtesy of Camp Mohican. The docks now being used are most probably from Crossett Lake. In the picture, the old library building can be seen in the middle of the picture and Rotary Cabin is over to the right in the background.

The lake was completely drained. Sediment, especially from the north end was removed and used to fill in the area between the amphitheater and the lake shore line. A sediment catch basin was created in the South brook just off the camp road (now mostly filled in with sediment). The north shore line between the North brook and the South brook was reshaped a little also. In general, sediment was also removed from other areas of the lake bed.

Lake Vreeland from the air

This aerial photo of the lake was taken in 1977 and you can clearly see the docks as well as many boats.

Thanks to Joe Fucito and Randy Holden for their memories.
