How can I get to Camp Glen Gray without a car?

If you are near a NJ Transit train in New Jersey or NY Penn Station, you can get up to camp. Getting to camp on public transportation

Can I bring my pet with me to camp?

No, Bergen County regulations do not allow campers to bring pets to Camp Glen Gray. Other county facilities do allow pets and camping - Camping with pets.
Service animals are, of course, welcome at camp.

I'm handicapped, what accomodations are there to allow me to come up to camp?

Camp Glen Gray is a rustic camp with dirt and gravel roads and many other physical challenges. Two of our cabins have ramps to allow wheelchair access. Weather permitting and with the availability of the camp truck, we will bring guests up to these cabins. These arrangements must be made in advance with the camp office to insure availability. We welcome you and will do everything we can to accomodate your stay at camp.

Can I come up to camp for the day to fish?

Sorry, we require you to come up for the weekend in order to fish, unless you join us for our Fall Fishing Derby, which is a special, one day event. See the calendar on our web site (www.glengray.org).

I've never gone camping, can you tell me about it?

Can I come up to hike for the day?

You can, provided you do not park in camp. You may park at other facilities and hike through Camp Glen Gray. We also hold an annual, one day Hike-O-Rama.

Can I bring my mountain bike with me?

No. Bergen County regulations do not allow bikes at Camp Glen Gray, but here is a list of bike paths provided by Bergen County - Bike Paths

When is camp open?

Camp is open most weekends of the year. Come join us from Friday through Sunday. Camp Schedule

Can my friends and I come up to camp for the weekend?

Yes, as long as ALL of you are 21 or older. Families, can, of course, bring young children with them. Organized groups (schools, churches, synagogues, youth organizations) can bring campers under 21, provided adequate adult supervision is available. Contact our office (201 327-7234) if you have any questions.

Can I bring alcoholic beverages with me when I camp?

Bergen County does not permit alcoholic beverages at Camp Glen Gray.

What if someone in my group gets hurt while camping?

You are responsible for your group. The camp office can direct you to the nearest medical facility and can summon emergency medical help and/or police if necessary. Please advise the Camp Office immediately in the event emergency medical or police assistance is required. The Group Leader will be asked to help fill out an Incident Report form for the Bergen County Parks Dept.

Do you sell food at camp?

We sell soda and candy snacks. Food stores are available in nearby Oakland, NJ.

Can I drive up to my campsite?

Cars are not permitted on camp roads. All cars must be parked in the camp’s parking facilities. Weather permitting and if a driver is available, you can arrange for us to truck your gear close to our cabins and many other sites. You should arrange trucking when you make camping reservations. There is a fee for the trucking service.

How far in advance must I reserve a site at camp?

Popular sites are often rented far in advance, so as soon as you can, you should put in a reservation. You can call our office (201 327-7234) and inquire about availability. On weekends when an event is held, camp often completely fills up far in advance.

Can I bring electrical appliances with me to camp?

Electricity in cabins is very limited. It is there only for the electric lights and medical devices. Cabin power is not adequate for electric heaters, you must use the cabin’s wood stove for heat.

Do you provide firewood to heat my cabin?

When you arrive, you will find a supply of wood to start up your wood stove. You must collect your own firewood from downed limbs around your site or bring your own wood. Before you leave, you must replace the wood supply for the next guest. Firewood may also be available for sale at the Trading Post. Chain saws are NOT allowed in camp.

Can I bring a gas heater to use in my cabin?

No, you may only heat your cabin using the wood stove. Regulations limit the size of gas cylinders used in cabins to the small 1 pound type used for cook stoves and lanterns.

Can I hunt on camp property?

No, hunting is strictly prohibited. Firearms, archery equipment, air rifles, pellet guns, slingshots or other weapons capable of injuring people or wildlife are prohibited.

Can we ice skate in the winter?

In the winter, absolutely no one is permitted on the ice at any time. Absolutely no throwing of stones or sticks on the ice.

Can I swim in warm weather?

Swimming is not permitted in our lake.

Can I bring my canoe up to camp?

Only camp provided boats are allowed on the lake. The camp office will rent you a rowboat. At least one adult must be seated facing the stern of the boat. A total of four people are allowed in the boat at any one time. Dropping off or picking up passengers is allowed only at the boat dock. Everyone in the boat must wear a camp-provided life vest at all times.
