2008 Camp Glen Gray Fishing derby |

The 2008 Glen Gray Fishing Derby, which we hold annually at Camp Glen Gray in Mahwah, NJ, was a big success. This year's Derby took place on Saturday, August 23, 2008. We had excellent weather, and 80 contestants fished in three categories: Junior Youth (10 and under), Senior Youth (11 to 17), and Adults (over 18). The top three winners in each category received trophies, and all youth participants received prizes such as rod & reel combos, gift certificates, and comic books, donated by sporting goods manufacturers and stores, and other local businesses.
The camp lake, which is about 5 acres in size, has a healthy largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and bluegill sunfish population, and makes an excellent location for a youth fishing derby. In past years, the Derby raised enough money through donations and entry fees to stock channel catfish, minnows and shiners. This is a catch and release derby. Winners are determined by the highest total of fish in inches.
