Camp Glen Gray

Benedict Lodge

Benedict Lodge is located up the hill overlooking the lake. The cabin consists of a large room with 24 bunks and a kitchen area. There are two smaller rooms off the main room. The cabin has a wood stove for heat and a four burner stove top for cooking. The cabin also has electricity and electric lights.

Benedict Lodge is named after Kim Benedict, who was the Commander of the American Legion Post in Caldwell, New Jersey. He lost his thumb during the construction of the cabin about 1940. The American Legion Post sponsord Boy Scout Troop 3 in Caldwell (now sponsored by the Caldwell United Methodist Church), and built the cabin for the troop.

The front door of this cabin is ramped making the cabin wheelchair accessible.

Some of the crew that renovated the cabin is shown. Seated are the Benedict family members that came to camp for the cabin re-dedication alongside caretaker Drew. Note the beautiful new interior and new wooden bunks.

With its many windows and white interior, Benedict is a bright, cheery cabin. From its "front yard" you have a perfect view of Lake Vreeland as you cook marshmallows over your campfire.

Benedict Cabin is located just a short walk across the road from the Gilwell leantos and cabin. At the Gilwell site, there is a latrine. In warm weather, the Gilwell site also has running water, otherwise the nearest water is at the West Well.

Benedict Lodge is sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 6, West Orange NJ
