If you look at our camp map, you will see that underneath the name Mary Post Field, it says in parentheses (Crowell). I always wondered about that and when I met David Crowell at the 2008 FOGG Hall of Fame luncheon, I learned the answer. Mike Schatzberg
Adams L. Crowell was born November 6, 1903 in Montclair. His parents were T. Irving Crowell and Helen Leland Crowell. He died July 24, 1917 in an elevator accident in McCreery's Department Store in New York City. I believe he was at Glen Gray that summer. He was a member of Troop 5 and attended Mt. Hebron School. A letter from Frank Gray to Adam's father. The March 1, 1918 Scout Gazette
There was meant to be a baseball field named Crowell Field. The money from Adams Crowell's savings account was used toward the purchase of the Mary Post property. When I was a camper in 1941 it was called Mary Post Field and that is really the name. The "Crowell" in parenthesis is good. See clipping
My father, Thomas I. Crowell, Jr., was Adams' older brother. He was not a boy scout, but in the 1950's was on the board of the Eagle Rock Council, was chairman of the Camp Committee and I think was in the Old Guard.
